VAT20.1 Are visas required for Foreign Armed Forces coming for training or familiarisation courses in the UK?

Foreign Armed Forces personnel (who are not NATO or Commonwealth) who go to the UK for training or familiarisation courses with British firms are not exempt from control.

Visa nationals and those seeking entry for longer than 6 months will require entry clearance and this may be granted subject to confirmation that proper arrangements have been made.

Servicemen travelling to the UK under this category should be advised to carry confirmation of the duration of their courses or official duties with them so that this can be shown to the Immigration Officer on arrival in the UK if necessary.
