VAT21.1 Can visitors take part in archaeological excavations?
Yes, under the following concession:
Applicants seeking entry as visitors may take part in archaeological excavations if they:
- are doing unpaid work as volunteers; or
- are paid only subsistence and travelling expenses.
Applicants are required to produce a letter from the director or organiser of the excavation stating:
- the period of employment and, where appropriate,
- what arrangements have been made for the applicant’s accommodation and maintenance.
