Applicants in many countries can pay for a UK visa using our online secure payment system. Use the information on this troubleshooting pages to get answers to common technical enquiries you may have about visa payments and refunds.

Payment methods

Visit our supported countries page to find out if the country you are applying from accepts online payments. Once you chose a method of payment, you cannot change it.  To find out about payment methods accepted in your country please contact your local visa application centre.

Not able to make an online payment

Check that your details are correct, and try again. If your details are correct and you have tried to make a payment 3 times, we will save your application and ask you to contact your bank.  Your application will be saved for 40 days.

'Time-out' message when attempting to make an online payment

If you receive a 'time out' message when you attempt to make a payment, this is usually due to your bank not authorising your payment within the time allowed. You should contact your back for advice about their online facilities.

Credit and debit cards

We accept most major credit cards.  If your payment is refused, contact your bank for assistance.

Payment receipts

If you want a receipt for your payment or want to confirm the amount you have paid, you should contact your bank or Worldpay.

Refunds

We will not refund your fee if you have given your biometric data.  This is due to the administrative costs that have been incurred for processing your application.

You can only get a refund if you have not given your biometric data. To apply for a refund you must supply the following information using our visa application online feedback form:

  • your unique application number (GWF) 
  • payment transaction reference 
  • date of payment 
  • amount paid 
  • details of the visa application centre where you made your application.
